Suspect Caught After Stolen Car Runs Out Of Gas On I-87 In Hudson Valley

A driver was busted with a stolen car on I-87 in the Hudson Valley on Thursday morning after he ran out of gas and state troopers attempted to offer him an assist on the side of the road.

Troopers stopped to assist Elizabeth, N.J. resident Nicholas Santana, 40, shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday morning in Catskill when they saw him walking with a gas can roadside.

While attempting to assist Santana, police said that troopers determined the vehicle he was operating had been reported stolen to the Rensselaer City Police Department earlier.

Santana was arrested and charged with a felony count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned in the Town of Catskill Court on Thursday morning on the charge. Bail information was not available on Thursday morning.
